Who am I?

A question no one can answer for me.

And if I myself can’t answer it, somebody will.

Somebody will tell me

I’m not smart, and I believe it.

I’m not good looking, and I believe it.

I’m a failure, and I believe it.

I’m not worth anything, and I believe it.

I don’t know anything, and I believe it.

And on, and on, and on, and I believe it

just because I don’t know

Who am I.

Who am I?

If I can definitely answer the question

then, nobody can dictate to me

Who am I

My identity will not be based

on what other people wants me to be.

My sense of dignity will not be easily shaken

by other people’s negative remarks.

My self-esteem will not be based

on what other people say about me.

But rather it will be based on the good things

that I do with the foundation of truth and justice.

I am unique and special,

when I see other people have what I do not have

and I have what other people do not have.

With this, I can do something for them

and they can do something for me.

Life is beautiful when I look around

and makes me realize

who am I

a child of God

who is loved and blessed.

Many of the young people I have met when I was working as a counselor for the adolescent don’t know who they are and what they will stand up for.  Their great need in this stage of their life is acceptance and belongingness, thus, the peer pressure is so high at the expense of what is right and moral.
